Chewore and Sapi Safari Areas make up a large percentage of the Zambezi valley in Zimbabwe. This huge tract of land varies from the flat valley floor to mountainous surrounds with an average height above sea level of approximately 500 metres. Rolling hills and rivers, some dry and sandy, others flowing annually are numerous. Situated on the Northern boundaries of Mana Pools and Sapi is the Zambezi river flowing from West to East. This is the border between Zimbabwe and Zambia and the game frequently crosses the river from one country to the other.
The vegetation varies from ‘Jesse bush” (thick and virtually un-impregnable) riverine to forested and open grasslands sometime associated with rolling hills. There are no fences, this is Africa at its wildest and game moves uninhibited across country from National Park to Safari Area and back again.
Temperatures vary depending on the season, summer commences around August/ September and continues through until April. The nights are warm to hot and the days are hot becoming extremely hot during the months of October/November where temperatures can reach as high as 45 C degrees or higher in the shade. The winter months which are generally warm during the day and cold during the evening, night and early morning with temperatures sometimes (although rarely going into the minus centigrade)
This is both a Tsetse fly and a Malaria area, please consult with your Doctor prior to you travel with regard to prophylactics and treatment,
Hunting
The Hunting areas are leased from the Zimbabwe Government and managed by the Zimbabwe National Parks and Wildlife Authority. This means an armed Ranger accompanies you on your hunt and no shooting may take place between 30 minutes after sunset and 30 minutes before sunrise. Animals shot, wounded and lost are paid for in full and additional animals are only given subject to availability.
We pride ourselves in the fact that we are a “Big game” area where Elephant, Lion, Leopard and Buffalo are plentiful. If Big game is your priority you have a very good chance of securing your trophy.
Due to the size of the concessions hunters would normally depart on their hunting trip early in the morning and stop in the field for a packed lunch returning to camp towards or after dark. We have a good high frequency radio network connecting vehicles and the camps via repeater stations situated on mountains in and around the Zambezi Valley. This is essential for your safety and assists your hunting if there is more than one hunting party out at any one time.
Should you not wish to bring your own weapons, or should they be delayed in travel, we are able to hire you scoped heavy and medium calibre weapons and shotguns. “Cats” Lion and Leopard are normally baited and pre baiting can be arranged to increase your chances of success. Walk in blast freezers and cold rooms in some of the camps ensure your baits stay fresh longer especially in the summer months thereby increasing your chances of success. Extra meat for bait is sometimes available for purchase. Elephant and Buffalo may require many kilometres of walking and a degree of fitness is recommended.

Campamentos
Chewore South offers three camps, namely Chenje, Kachowe and Mana/Angwa. Some camps are better situated for certain species than others and if you are a first time visitor you may be allocated a camp by the company. If you have hunted with us before and have a preference please advise us when booking your safari and we will do what we can to assist you with your request. Should you wish to have your own private and exclusive camp we can arrange it.

All camps run independently with their own kitchen, bedroom, ground staff and skinners. The camps are powered by generator (220v-3 square pin plugs) with fridges, freezers and plentiful supplies of ice.
Main Buildings are constructed from brick under thatch with lounge, dining area and outside fire. Clients accommodation is walk in “Meru” type tents on a cement base with en-suite shower, flush toilet and hand basin. Hot and cold running water is the order of the day. The washing and ironing of your clothing is done on a daily basis and you get your items back the same day.
Food and Drink
Please advise us when booking if you have any preferences or food/drink likes or dislikes and we will try to accommodate your needs. We incorporate some of the game meat shot by yourselves and others wherever we can. Please note we are limited in our supply of imported liquor and you may wish to bring with a duty free supply of your favourite brands.
Chenje Camp
This is the main camp and is the largest and most developed and is centrally situated on the Chewore South concession. Each chalet has an un-interrupted view of the Chenje River as does the main building. The river is home to Hippo, Crocodiles and a host of animals coming down to drink. Bulk fuel for the land cruisers is stored here as are the main freezing facilities. This is the only camp that offers satellite internet connection for your communication with home and elsewhere. Clients staying in other camps may stop here during their hunting day for lunch or to connect to the internet should they wish to do so.

Kachowe Camp
This quiet camp is situated on the Western side of the concession towards the Sapi/Mana Pools and Chewore river boundary. The camp is built along the banks of the Kachowe River which remains dry for most of the year. A waterhole on the opposite bank attracts a variety of species of game to drink. Sapi Safari Area booked hunts also take place from this camp.

Mana/Angwa Camp
This is the smallest of our camps and is situated on the Eastern side of the concession on high ground with a view overlooking the Angwa River. The wide and sandy river retains water in pools for most of the year.

The camp is normally utilised for those wanting an exclusive and private safari. Each camp has its own unique setting and character.
Vuelos Charters
We use the professional services of Safari Air Services to transport our guests in and out of the Zambezi valley. They operate both single and twin engine type aircraft and the flying time is between 45 minutes and an hour from Harare depending on the aircraft type. Their Pilots will meet and greet you at the airport and assist you with clearing customs and with your firearms and luggage.
Air transfers can also be arranged to start or end in Victoria Falls should you want to visit this wonder of the world before or after your safari. International scheduled flights operate out of Victoria Falls daily to Johannesburg as they do out of Harare.
Trophies
Dipping and Packing of your trophies is taken care of by a professional service in Harare. Please refer to the price sheet for charges relating to the number of animals you shoot.
Professional Hunters
The company only contracts certain Professional Hunters who have a proven past track record. Should you have hunted with us or anywhere else in Zimbabwe before, and have a PH preference, then please advise us and we will try to organise you hunt with the PH of your choice. Please visit our website at www.huntersafrica.net to view our PH profiles and a host of other information.
